In Hybrid Cloud Architecture, Redis is the key component!

You must be wondering how come Redis, which has been around since 2009 and has found its niche in enterprise architecture, has become a key component in new age cloud centric architecture?
First of all, let us look at how enterprises are embracing public cloud platform and assimilating it in their enterprise architecture.
While first thing to move to public cloud platform was the development and test servers, it was followed by a web layer. Deploying webservers and load balancers made a lot of sense on public cloud as it enabled on-demand computing resources. You could scale up or scale down the web layer with demand elasticity.
Next in line are two heavy duty layers – application servers and database servers. With combined forces of containerization and Kubernetes orchestration, containerizing microservices and deploying on cloud have become a common practice. This led to deployment of application servers also on public cloud.
But the next layer – the database layer has not been moved to public cloud as much as cloud vendors would have liked. For the enterprises, especially the likes of traditional banks, insurance, telcos, etc., it has not been an easy decision to move database to public cloud. Reasons are many and are valid, too.
In such a scenario, enterprises have adopted a hybrid architecture. Application, application server, and webserver are running on public cloud and database servers are running on-prem and dedicated data centers. While it serves the objective of database security and adheres to regulatory guidelines, it also creates challenges of performance and affects the business functioning in a big way.
Customers demand faster access; customers don’t have much patience with delayed response time and broken connections. They need to be served with right data instantly. Many studies have shown that slow data access or slower response time from systems have resulted in customer abandoning of transactions or forming negative impression of the company.
In such cases (and these are most common scenarios), Redis offers a great solution. Redis, which was always known for offering great caching solution, has added more sophistication and scalability to its enterprise edition – Redis Enterprise. It makes the architecture highly available and scalable through newly added features on top of community Redis offering.
What has made Redis key component of new age hybrid cloud architecture is the choice of platform it gives you – from fully managed cloud-based offering across 3 public cloud vendors to self-managed on-prem enterprise edition. It gives flexibility of platfrom and control over the architecture.
We are excited to partner with Redis Labs to enable the journey of enterprise customers in Southeast Asia and India towards high performance hybrid cloud adoption.
