Interest in Postgres has risen to equal that of MySQL and IBM DB2 based on inquiries received by industry analyst firm Gartner, according to Gartner analyst Merv Adrian, who delivered that message during a panel at the recent Postgres Vision conference. Advances in Postgres have accelerated with the pace of business and organizations are turning to the EDB Postgres Platform from EnterpriseDB® (EDB™) for flexibility and speed-to-solution offered by the open source-based solution. EDB Postgres is a leading open source-based database management system (DBMS) in the newly released 2016 Gartner Magic Quadrant for Operational Database Management Systems.*

Enterprises of all sizes are under pressure to become digital businesses with intelligent and adaptable applications that have the data and situational awareness needed to delight customers in an ever-changing environment. This is the grand challenge for enterprises against which Gartner Operational DBMS magic quadrant assesses today’s solutions.
However, IT must deliver these digital business applications with both speed and control along with a vendor partner that offers the vision, ability to execute, flexibility, and ease of doing business. While open source offers flexibility and speed, EDB Postgres delivers the benefits of open source as well as the control, lower cost of ownership, and reduced risk that IT and business executives demand. EnterpriseDB provides a tested and proven database with the enterprise capabilities necessary to manage multi-model data, connect with existing systems and deploy rapidly across multiple environments. For enterprises of all sizes, EDB Postgres is the most complete open source-based data platform for digital business.
According to Gartner, EDB is one of the most recognized vendors in the DBMS market. Gartner gives EDB credit for a strong roadmap (vision) and continual improvements in the EDB Postgres Platform. Some of these recent improvements to PostgreSQL include parallel query, horizontal scaling, and increased throughput. Gartner rates EDB Postgres highly for both traditional transactional and distributed variable data (multi-model and multiple data types) use cases.
EDB Postgres customers report accelerated speed to solution at reduced cost and risk for new digital business applications, application modernization, legacy DBMS replacement, and cloud replatforming projects. Of the customers surveyed by Gartner, EDB Postgres is an enterprise DBMS standard in 50% of them.
